It’s mostly a residential area attracting a younger generation and anyone looking for a fun place to stay in Bangkok.
Thonglor is a convenient place to be in Bangkok. It’s connected to the BTS (skytrain) meaning you can easily bypass Bangkok’s notorious traffic in order to explore the city during the day. At night? Well, this is when Thonglor really comes to life. There’s a stream of hangout spots including beer gardens, open air food/drink courts, fancy bars and lounges and obviously the local streetfood scene.
Now you may want to know where to stay in Thonglor? The good news is that Thonglor is a relatively compact area. Basically it’s a road that branches off Sukhumvit and stretches for less than 2.5 kilometers. All the cool stuff and hotels are dotted along this street and side alleys leading onto it.

I personally think that Thong Lo is a great place to stay in Bangkok. Not only is it loaded with a bunch of cool things, but having everything within a compact area means that no matter where you end up staying, everything is going to be close by.
However, if you prioritize convenience, then staying closer to the BTS skytrain allows you to move around the city more easily. It’s a 20 minute ride by skytrain to the malls in Siam and 15 minutes to Nana and its entertainment.
